Day 9 Tuesday

Sometimes I think the TV show 'Little Britain' should be termed a reality show and not a comedy series. On a number of occasions during the last 9 days I have had reason to snigger and bite my tongue at the pathetic attitude one often deals with here. I stopped in at the library today and attempted to join so that I could take out a DVD (there is not a DVD rental store here). The woman said, thats fine it is free to join just bring us a utility bill blah blah blah. I said I didn't really have one but would be in the village for another 2 weeks at least and maybe back here at the end of Jan. 'Oh, then is wouldn't be worth it then would it' she reckoned so no I couldn't join. Crap, I fancied watching a movie on my computer tonight. So I will buck the system and take in the old lady's card, if she can find it that is.

I also have been shocked rigid at 2 incidents in the news here, one a gang rape of a 14 year old girl back in march (I think) by at least 6 boys/men, horrific stuff and I cant believe it happened here in the UK I have cut it out of the newspaper to keep and read when I think SA is the worst it can get. The other incident happened in Jan on a farm in Buckinghamshire where hundreds of horses were dying or dead, and they were not even abandoned the people just couldn't be bothered. The SPCA here believed it to be the worse case of animal cruelty ever reported. So it certainly isn't a picnic here either.

Funny, I joined the library today too....for dvd rental lol. Must admit the crime here can be pretty bad to but at least the criminal is generally caught and punished and not let out a couple of months later on a presidents pardon...hee hee!

Hope you are enjoying your stay.

I hope she finds her library card soon, I love "escaping" with a good book or movie.

Hey Jo!
I think no matter where you are in the world you still have to take the good with the bad.
There really is no perfect Utopia {although DH thinks Bermuda comes pretty damn close} & the grass isn't necessarily greener on the proverbial other side. I suppose you have to weigh up the good vs the bad in a specific context & make a decision from there.
On a completely different note, my Gracie girl was at the vet being spayed today & it nearly broke my heart to leave her there, you should've seen her face when she realised I was going & she was staying :o(
She's home now & enjoying the fuss & attention of being a "patient" - she even got supper in bed. It's a dog's life I tell you :o)

xoxoxo

PS: Why not treat yourself to an ipod & you can download all sorts of movies/series etc from iTunes.

I don't think the library thing is any different from SA? When I arrived in SA I wanted to join the La Lucia library (they had a few movies but it was the books I was after) and I had to bring ID and a utility bill to prove that I lived within the La Lucia area.

The crime? It happens.... just like SA - you have to be 'area conscious'.

Keep us updated - love 'checking' on you.

I think its pretty standard when applying for a library card but shame about no DVD stores though. You must be in the back of beyond!!

Oh yes, the crime there can get gruesome! Just not as prolific as here we would hope! Very interesting reading...your blog...what a life! Good thing you are documenting it for future generations ;-D

yep ... others have said it all ... crime is crime, and is always bad. Murder is murder and you can't change that, but your son has it right, it's how often it goes on and the justice that happens at the other end that makes the difference. Sucky re.the video store...
